Meditation, Cancer & a new Medical Revolution

om

“Meditation is our ability to contact our true self and consciousness which is the source of life and  intelligence.  Meditation is the ability to clear out the negative aspects of out consciousness, harmful subconscious habits and impulses that cause pain and suffering.  Meditation helps promote out highest impulses and also roots out those which are harmful and intractable.” (Yoga & Ayurveda, Self-Healing and Self-Realization by David Frawley)

I started my meditation practice in 2000 after watching my mother battle cancer for two years, and ultimately succumb to the disease.   However, upon her diagnoses she was given six months to live.  Through pure determination, will power, and a huge lifestyle change she lived 2 more years beyond what the doctors diagnosed.  When I hear “Western” doctors (because you won’t find this in other medical traditions) giving terminally ill patients a date when there dis-ease will eventually cause them to die, this stirs the blood in my every vein to scream out loud and curse this “Western” way of thinking.  To give someone a time frame as to when they will pass on is like telling a child what they will be when they grow up.  Only the child can happily determine that for oneself with life experience,  and personal interest.  We are in the ultimate drivers seat of our lives.  Only you and you along will decide when it is time to leave this body, (unless taken in some other way besides a dis-ease, i.e natural disaster, car accident while not in the driver’s seat etc.)

So long story short, watching the transformation in my mother over the course of her battle to cancer, I realized that we have complete control over our bodies and our ultimate “destiny”.  In my mother’s case, she gave up.  It was a combination of a lot of things like poor radiation treatment, not really taking an organic approach to the dis-ease (due to conditioning and brain washing that has a fierce grip on her generation).  Although she was trying to break free of the mental chains that bound her to a way of thinking that created a dis-ease in her body, she eventually did not wish to continue to fight.

At first this caused intense anger in me as you can imagine.  But after a lot of self-destructive years and a lot of letting go, I know that this was her choice and her path, and she is now with me in spirit way beyond what she could ever have been for me in the physical form.  And to her I am forever grateful.  She was my healing light, and through her grace in the face of death, I have been able to transcend deeply into my healing journey here on Earth for the greater good of not just my own self but all of humankind for we are all connected.  And this, I view as her ultimate sacrifice for me, her child and the higher reason for her ‘giving’ up whether it was consciously or not.

Each one of us who chooses to grow and look at themselves deeply to understand their own breath, mind and actions is a step closer to peace on earth and a medical, global revolution in consciousness and beyond.

My mother, who was a soul well beyond this world in her time, sacrificed her life for me to see.
